  Once the home of some of the region’s most powerful samurai, the Aizu samurai residence is now a fascinating, well-preserved museum dedicated to Japan’s fascinating samurai history. The original complex was burned down in 1868, but what stands today is an equally impressive recreation of the site that dates back to the Edo-period.   Sitting at the base of Iimori-yama, is where you’ll find the White Tigers Memorial Hall, also known as the Byakkotai Memorial Hall. This monolithic white building is a dedication to the story of the city’s teenage samurais who committed suicide during Boshin civil war of 1868.
