Nightlife in Tottori

Located along the Sun Road Shotengai close to Tottori station, Daizen is a local favorite. Start your night here and grab some of their delicious sashimi donburi, made with fresh fish caught in the morning and locally grown rice. As the first floor is a bit tight and gets packed quickly, head up to the spacious second floor to enjoy your slow meal with your friends.

After filling your belly with some good food and conversation, why not take a stroll through the nearby Sun Road Shotengai? With seasonal decorations and atmosphere, take in the numerous shops holding everything from beauty products, home accessories, organic lifestyle goods, medicine to apparel.

You might run into other curious travelers along the way, as there are plenty of hotels and small stores with desserts and snacks nearby. If you’re feeling for something grander, head to the well-known department store, Daimaru. And if you end up still wanting a small bite to eat before the next stop, there are a variety of cafes and restaurants waiting for you.

Takumi Kappoten

After taking a stroll, it’s about time for some decadence. Takumi Kappoten has painstakingly grown local beef waiting for you to enjoy. The restaurant is fashioned out of an old folk craft place. The effect it has on you as you marvel over your meal has some saying “it’s an exercise in folklife.”

Hondori Shotengai

At this point in the night, you are probably stuffed. We believe in pacing yourself when it comes to enjoying the food of a new city. Hondori Shotengai gives you the area to make some space for your next meal. Although not as popular as Sun Road Shotengai, close by Tottori station, you don’t have to worry about straying too far as the night progresses. As you enjoy some authentic Spanish tapas, you can feel connected knowing you have your finger on the pulse on what’s hot in the city. With okigaru meaning “easy going” in the name, you can take this comfortable cultural memory home to enrich the other areas of your life.

Pub The Sakaemachi Hall

Heralded as one of Tottori city’s only pubs, Pub Sakaemachi Hall is a nice spot to end your culinary trip. Although far from quiet and quaint, you can wrap yourself in the excitement of the other patrons as they passionately share their drinks. Feeding off this energy, you can prepare yourself for the next spot to relax and unwind.

After dining and having a few drinks, one relaxing way to end the night is by heading to the Hinomaru Public Onsen which is a couple of blocks away from the Hondori Shotengai. This onsen looks more like a sento and it has a lot of character as well as vintage furniture inside.

After your culinary journey topped with some drinks, Hinomaru Onsen is a great place to let everything melt away. Open till midnight, you can relax while enjoying the historical atmosphere of this old bathhouse as you soak in Tottori’s popular onsen spot. A dip in this water will make quite a story for your trip back home.
