Earth......the source of all evil. This is the planet where wars are waged, battles are fought and sins are committed. This is the resting place of Darkness. Darkness, sleeping until the day that the evil of Earth finally takes over. The sins of the people will bring about the end of the world. As everyone is unaware of what is awakening more and more by the moment, there are some who sense this evil. These warriors have gathered. They have gathered to defeat what they have created.
In the Eternal Oblivion RPG, a stat based system is utilized, yet it is combined with the freeform system of many RPGs as the stats are simply numbers to represent your skill level, and do not directly affect damage, mana, or any other elements of the game. The only exception to this is that some skills, spells, and weapons have stat requirements, in addition to some of the higher ranked missions. After players create a character for the first time, they can go on quests that have been pre-planned by the staff. An objective and scenario is given, and the player can complete this in whatever manner they choose. Upon completion, the staff members in charge of the RP section of the forum will grade that person based on how well they performed. This grade determines how much experience the character gained, and thus, how quickly they will grow in power.
While the majority of these quests are performed solo, there are dual quests, which are more difficult ones that can not normally be completed alone. In these, the players will be given a single grade based on their teamwork and individual roleplaying skill. In addition, players can create their own personal side quests, to further the plot of their own character, instead of developing the main plotline.
Quests are not the only way that the players RP. New players can also create a 'training' thread where one of the more experienced members will use their character in a sparring session to give the player a better feel for the RP system. Also, a player can request a formal battle with another player in a 'tournament' type situation. Both players battle with their characters for a set amount of time. At this point, an RP staff member not involved in the battle will grade the players individually, just as he or she would grade a quest.
Overall, Eternal Oblivion provides a unique merger between two widely popular roleplaying systems.
