50 years after the 'Fall of The Quincy', the Shinigami were in chaos. Their previous General Captain had recently been slain in an ambush by a small team of surviving Quincy, and a replacement had not yet been named. Just when things looked like they couldn't get any worse, they did. The very seals that protected Soul Society from the foul threat of the Hollows finally broke under the foul pressure that constantly tested them. In a matter of hours, a mighty horde of Hollows had gathered in Rukongai. With the souls of the residents of Rukongai fueling the horde's numbers at an ever-increasing rate, the Shinigami had no choice but to allow the remaining souls through the inner walls and into the stronghold of the Shinigami: Seireitei. Skirmishes broke out around the Rukongai and even though the brave Shinigami fought valiantly and had the edge in combat ability, they could not hold back the Hollow horde's superior numbers.
