High-fantasy, or if you rather, magical steampunk. This is the starting point of Arkien and remains its focus. The world that springs forward from this basic concept will usher in whatever the user desires. Truely, a mallable world to fit any character.
The basic premise is this: Swords, sorcery, and the advent of modern technology. The fantasy steamage includes amazing constructs, powerful warships, and even airships. Floating cities, underground societies, and even the industrial landscape all seem to be logical settings. A rush for gold and oil is as important as a rush for a rare crystal that focuses magic. This blend of traditional fantasy settings with modern science fiction offers a world boundless in span.
The character possiblies are far too numerous to count. A sword-wielding hero is common in any fantasy setting, but in Arkien, even a lowly businessman with a knack for numbers might tend up as a formible foe.
