Nankinmachi Shunsetsu Festival

A local take on Chinese New Year, the biggest event of the year in China, held in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture's Chinatown and the surrounding area. Held since 1987, the event was designated a Regional Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the city of Kobe in 1997. A variety of fun-filled events are held during the festival, such as a parade of people dressed as Chinese historical figures, rapid mask changing bian lian performances from Sichuan, Chinese lion dances, and a raffle featuring fabulous prizes.
