Senkoji Park

Located on Mt. Senkoji in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Senkoji Park is one of the best places in the Prefecture for viewing cherry blossom, and has been selected for inclusion in the list of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. Besides Yoshino, double-flowered cherry and weeping cherry trees, there are also more unusual varieties to see; in spring, the Park is suffused with the beautiful pinkish-red coloration of the cherry blossom from a total of around 1,500 cherry trees. Besides viewing the blooming cherry trees from ground level, visitors can also admire both the cherry blossom and the views of the Seto Inland Sea from the Park’s observation platforms. From late March to mid-April, when the cherry blossom is in full bloom, visitors can also enjoy the cherry blossom in the evenings, when the cherry trees are illuminated by paper lanterns bearing Haiku poems.
