Matsuyama Castle Park

Event
Matsuyama Castle Park is an urban park in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture that is centered around Matsuyama Castle, which has been designated as a National Historic Site. The Park has been selected for inclusion in Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots; every year in spring, there are around 200 cherry trees in bloom. The sight of the Castle’s Tenshu (main tower or keep), which was built during the Edo period, flanked by cherry blossom is truly spectacular. There are a wide range of different cherry tree varieties, including Yoshino, Tsubaki-kanzakura and Oshima-zakura; the combination of early-flowering varieties and late-flowering varieties means that the period during which visitors can view the cherry blossom is extended. The peak season for viewing the cherry blossom is from late March through to early April, and the “Matsuyama Spring Festival (Castle Festival)” is held on the first weekend in April each year. During the Festival, the cherry blossom is illuminated in the evenings, and there is a samurai procession, etc. Toilets available, but parking is not available.
