Takaoka Kojyo Park
Event
Takaoka Kojyo Park was created on the site of the former Takaoka Castle, which was built by Maeda Toshinaga, the second generation of the Maeda family to rule the Kaga domain. The Park contains a shrine, zoo, museum, sports center, etc. The site of the old castle has been designated a National Historic Site, and the Park is also a famous place for viewing cherry blossom, which has been included in the list of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. From early April through into mid-April, around 1,800 cherry trees belonging to 18 different varieties (including Yoshino, Koshino-higan and hill cherry) are in bloom in the Park; a “Takaoka Cherry Blossom Festival” is held during this period, with food-stalls and with paper lanterns to illuminate the cherry trees, making this a great place for evening cherry blossom viewing. Toilets, shops, and free parking available. The nearest station is Takaoka Station.
