Tsurugaoka Hachimangu

Event
Notable as a shrine with connections to Minamoto no Yoritomo, first Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate, this shrine is designated as National Historic Site. It draws in many visitors from inside and outside the prefecture, especially with the blooming of Yoshino cherries and weeping cherries in spring. The most intriguing spots are the dankazura approach pathway, built to pray for safe child-birth of Yoritomo’s wife, Hojo Masako, and the areas around the Genpei-ike ponds. The view from Hata-age Benzaitensha Shrine on the east side is a must-see. The shrine is open from 6:00 to 20:30. Toilets, shops and parking available. The nearest station is Kamakura Station.
